GIFs are an amazing way to convey moods, spice up internet articles or provide visual explanations to an article. That being said, while a lot of us use GIFs in our day-to-day lives thanks to social media platforms and instant messaging apps, not a lot of people know how to create GIFs from scratch.

In this article, we’re going to show you how to create your own GIFs using a simple tool that runs in your web browser.

To access the Flixier GIF maker, type ‘flixier’ into Google and go to the first result. Then, click the blue Get Started button to open the app in your web browser.

When you do that, you’ll be met with an Import screen. This is where you upload the video that you want to make your GIF from. There’s a number of different ways you can do that. You can either drag a video over from your computer, you can import a video directly from one of the multiple cloud storage platforms available. If you want to make a GIF from a YouTube video or TikTok, all you need to do is copy the link to your video and then choose the Link option, paste it there and click the Import button.

Your video will take a couple of seconds to process and then it will show up in the Library tab. There, you can double click on it and add it to the timeline at the bottom of the screen.

You can drag on the ends of your clip in the timeline to trim it and leave only the part that you want to include in your GIF.

If your video is HD or similar, you should also probably lower the resolution, since an HD GIF would be way too large to share online. To do that, click on the empty area next to the video canvas to bring up the Settings menu on the right side of the screen. Then, type in a new resolution that’s better for a GIF, we recommend something like 800 x 480.

Select your video again and click on Fit Canvas to resize your video inside the new resolution. Use the mouse button to resize and reposition it according to what you need.

When you’re done, click the Export button. Select GIF as your format from the drop-down list. Flixier will take a few seconds to process your new GIF and then you’ll be able to save it to your computer and share it with people over the internet.

Adding text to your GIF

Don’t worry though, that’s not all you can do with this GIF maker for PC. If you want to, you can add text to your GIFs easily. Just open the Text tab on the left side of the screen and click on Add Simple Text. Edit it to say whatever you want, then use the menu on the right side of the screen to customize the way your text looks. You can choose from hundreds of fonts and edit everything yourself, or just choose from the dozens of customizable text presets to get everything done quickly.

Making a GIF from a screen recording

If you want to record your screen and turn that into a GIF (to use in an online lesson or tutorial, for example), you can do that too! In the Library tab, click the Record button. This will allow you to access the Flixier screen recorder, which lets you capture your screen or webcam. Create your recording, add it to the timeline and then follow the steps above to create your GIF.

If you want to, you can even add shapes like arrows, circles and rectangles to your GIF in order to highlight important parts of your GIF or direct the viewer’s attention to them.

Now that you know how to make your own GIFs, feel free to head over to Flixier.com and start working on them! Keep in mind that Flixier is a free GIF maker. You don’t even need to create an account in order to try it out for yourself!
